Making More with Makemake ~ 16 November 2010

First, a couple of interesting notes from astronomy land. Mike Brown and other astronomers now work to reconcile recent dwarf planet insights, including the fact that Eris may end up being more of a twin of Pluto than previously realized. Having observed Eris pass in front of distant stars, she appears to be smaller in diameter and closer to Pluto’s girth than previously imagined. However, she remains substantially more massive. In a head on collision, Pluto would be the loser. Further, Brown reports, each of the dwarf planets seems to be its own odd duck, ranging at the edge of the solar system, offering little clue to the origin of the edge of our solar system - at least per current knowledge factors. This past week Brown has been on the Big Island, struggling with technical matters, clouds and fog, striving for a good look at Eris.

Though Haumea naturally fits with the Hawaiian chain, the conference mentioned above and Brown’s current work on Hawaii, recent realizations about Makemake’s transits prompt reporting new observations of this dwarf planet, part of the collection of Pacific-based mythology impacting modern astrology.

Makemake’s North Node lies in Gemini, stressing the importance of articulating well-thought concepts that integrate the best of all points of view. The closest approach (perihelion) of this Pacific Rim deity finds the ecliptic in Aries, and only one minute of an arc from Jupiter’s perihelion degree. These orbital influences demand personal excellence and soulful confidence in all treks taken. Though from different mythic cultures, Jupiter offers Makemake a helping hand in attitude, imagery, metaphor and resulting consciousness. Matters of use, non-use, abundance, excessiveness, indulgence and conservation vs. progress tag along in the combined messages.

In the 1994 movie, Rapa Nui (playing on cable channels), the locals are depicted as wiping out the trees on the island to roll the maoi (the famous Easter Island stone carvings) to the proper location for propitiation to Makemake and the other gods. That’s a bit of a backackwards approach. Yes, it takes money to make money to track a parallel concept, but eliminating an essential resource in the hope of divine intervention seems a bit... misguided. How did that $20,000 prosperity seminar series work out for you?

Over the past months, we’ve been feeling the opposition of Makemake in Virgo to Jupiter and Uranus on the other side of the heavens in Pisces. Given the twinship of perihelion of Makemake and Jupiter, this series of aspects gains potency. Here are the dates (plus or minus your local time zone) for these oppositions:

Mar 6 Uranus opposite Makemake

May 6 Jupiter opposite Makemake

Oct 3 Jupiter opposite Makemake

Oct 29 Uranus opposite Makemake

            ...and next year...

Jan 8 Jupiter opposite Makemake

Jan 23 Uranus opposite Makemake

Recently, I’ve been perplexed by some of the political response and ridiculous rhetoric regarding matters of global preservation. So go the “not so much in favor of preserving the planet” arguments: While a good idea, it won’t make enough of a dent and it will cost too much. It’s not worth doing; the solution causes an equal amount of unsolvable problems. It won’t matter if I cut down only one of the remaining endangered trees. It doesn’t hurt anything if I pitch my soda can into the forest/desert/river/lake/ocean. With a hundred million or a billion incarnate beings thinking this way, vast destruction is not far behind. Perhaps this same mentality feeds the economic crisis at hand, too. The natural trickle down from such resistant responses impacts the hopeful agendas that each person on Earth carries in the back pocket of their consciousness, regardless of their views on economics, ecology or evolution. The constant drone of: It can’t be helped. It won’t make a difference or Armageddon is coming anyway, works to poison optimism and ebullience of effort.

Dialogue, whether internal or external of the utilization of resources - personal or of the Earth - inspires either positive proclamations of the intent to advance, or the adoption a defeated “why bother,” “it’s too late,” “I’m too old,” or “it’ll never happen now” consciousness.

Given last month’s pair of oppositions involving Makemake and the upcoming January batch, keeping the mojo matching the theme of Makemake is a must. The demand for fresh attitudes appears ever so important for next year’s “get back in the saddle and get this year on the road” theme typical of post-holiday time and the entry into a new Gregorian year.

Makemake’s Gemini/Aries influence agenda demands confident application of innovation and ingenuity. Using available resources with respect, a conscious effort that includes regeneration (replanting forest after consumption in a way that agrees with how Nature herself would do it), and a clear focus upon the reality of the goals - personal and collective - is required.

Another issue in the Makemake matrix is that of maintaining impeccable focus upon an agenda while constantly responding to new information that may alter the focus. Listening to the political rhetoric leading up to our recent mid-term elections, it was staggering to hear politicians disavowing what they championed as essential causes two years ago. Presently, Mercury and Mars track the middle degrees of Sagittarius. As they do, they engage black holes with the themes “be an authority of the consciousness you advance,” or “wise experts only need apply - wannabes, or those teaching what they need to learn, stay away.” These black holes offer a point of revistation between the Makemake-Jupiter-Uranus patterns.

Adopting a plan of personal resource management fits the billing between now and January’s reiteration of the transits. Suggestions include (but are not limited to):

Practice, get perfect at the method, technique, skill set, talent, craft, then put it into play.

When hearing setback reactions that lack a sense of evolution, realize that Makemake is in Virgo. There are rules, protocols and powers that be. While participating in a non-alienating approach (to keep Eris pacified, if nothing else), offer solutions whose merit, method and magic cannot be denied. This may take a lot of practice prior to presentation. Rule breaking and rebellious behaviors likely make little progress given the potential gear grind of the pattern.

Apply experience and accomplishments in the presentation of innovations. Those who glean wisdom, skill and expertise through doing also gain credibility.

Avoid excesses that deplete resources. No need to cut down fifty trees to make a twenty-tree log cabin - bad carpentry skills notwithstanding. An awareness of global providence and availability is not negativity.

Maintain your enthusiasm. While this may be the most difficult element to apply, keep the faith in the magic of your creative vision. Realizing it’s hard to wade through a reaction river of no’s, doesn’t meet our current needs, what are you talking about?, impractical, too expensive, if the ultimate, largest vision of what drives the project becomes the banner held high, evolving energy may overcome inertia.

Presently, we pass through an in-between time of the opposition cycle of Jupiter-Uranus to Makemake. Review past approaches, refine the vision and prepare to advance. Timing is everything. Perhaps holding back on when you reveal the next Earth shattering (in a good way) concept until the patterns ripen makes more sense than presenting ideas during holiday overwhelm and/or Mercury retrograde.
